Welcome to Friday 411, issue #091. In 4 minutes, with 1 insight and 1 action, you’ll help your team get consistent results by becoming a more consistent leader.
1 Insight
Inconsistent leaders create inconsistent teams who get inconsistent results.
Consistency seems like it should be easy. All you have to do is take a small action – like exercise, eating healthy, or reading – and do it over and over. In actual practice, consistency is not easy. As Jim Rohn said, “What’s simple to do is also simple not to do.”
As a leader, consistency is consistently challenging. It’s tough to:
- Maintain a positive attitude
- Stay focused on the vision
- Encourage each person
- Give tough feedback
- Grow as a leader
When you are consistent in the little, everyday actions of leadership, it creates big results. We call this phenomenon the Mundane-to-Magnificent Paradox: Consistently doing simple, mundane tasks leads to magnificent achievements.
Earlier this year, I (Garland) was a guest on The Daily Leader Podcast with Brad McDonald and Taylor Jessup.
We discussed the 7 Leadership Traits that Solve 95% of Company Problems. When Dorothy and I first started naming these traits, we only identified six: Character, Competence, Capacity, Clarity, Community, and Culture.
In this clip with Brad and Taylor, I share why we added the 7th trait, Consistency, and why it’s so powerful.
